Towards a Community-Led Plan

Working towards a Community-led Plan for Ireby & Uldale Parish

Following the successful open event on Saturday, 10th May, which was facilitated by Ireby and Uldale Parish Council, working alongside ACTion with Communities in Cumbria, a group of residents interested in taking the plan forward has come together.

Evening meetings on 2nd and 16th June resulted in this decision to go ahead, and a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer were elected by the assembled group.   From this point in time onwards, the group will have autonomy to manage the creation of the plan and will be communicating their activities and progress to the wider community of the Parish.

The steering group is not a pressure group; its responsibility is to explore what people in the Parish as a whole want, and to relate to the people of the Parish outcomes of the group's discussions from an impartial stance.

It was agreed that:

  • The process of gathering views and formulating action plans must be inclusive of a wide range of residents and will ensure its relevance to local people.
  • The steering group is a strategic group, not an action group, but it does not preclude other groups from going ahead with their plans.
  • The steering group acts as an umbrella group, co-ordinating the activities of sub-groups.

Building flexibility and adaptability in the Community-led Plan will develop a resilient community.

The steering group should be representative of our community as a starting point but should pull in other members of the community and follow up with named individuals monitoring the progress of the various actions.

Influence and reach of activities may extend beyond the boundaries of the parish.

The group has the continued support of Ireby & Uldale Parish Council and ACTion with Communities in Cumbria.  At present, you may contact the group by email to clp@ireby-and-uldale.org.uk
